When Dutch sailors set sail in the 1600s, they braved a ruthless ocean where skill alone wasn’t enough. They needed luck. Because pigs and hens often survived shipwrecks, floating in wooden crates, sailors tattooed them onto their skin as symbols of protection, a belief in making it home. Pig & Hen is built on that belief, a legacy carried forward.
After shipwrecks, the crates carrying pigs and hens were often the only ones that stayed afloat, washing ashore with their passengers inside. Sailors believed these animals were destined to survive. And with their tattoos, they would too.
Centuries later, Pig & Hen brings this tradition to life from the heart of Amsterdam, transforming sailors’ symbols of luck into meaningful jewelry. Built with the same resilience and strength, each piece carries a legacy of adventure, luck, and craftsmanship.
Founded in Amsterdam in 2013, Pig & Hen began as a small concept centered around handcrafted rope bracelets. Thomas van der Kallen and Stefan Textor soon joined as co-owners. Since then, Pig & Hen has grown into a successful, internationally recognized jewelry brand.
